Gulfstream to install Starlink across fleet and virtual reality comes to flight training
The weekly private jet podcast is now LIVE!
In this week’s VIP Seat podcast, we talk about:
Britain Ramps Up Taxes on Private Jet Industry
In a move characteristic of many European countries lately, Britain is ramping up duties on private jet travel by 50%. The UK has had lower growth compared to peers, and is facing crushing government debt. The new government, the Labour Party, intends to raise even more taxes on the wealthy and is increasing taxes to a record 38% of the Gross Domestic Product.
AirX’s John Matthews Warns of Private Jet Bubble
John Matthews, the Chairman of AirX and a highly-followed influencer, is warning that global aircraft inventories are reaching concerning levels. The 2008 financial crisis sent inventories to over 3,000 aircraft, and the market is inching closer to 2,000. Gulfstream Moves to be First OEM to Install Starlink Fleetwide
After many operator requests, Gulfstream has received an STC to install Starlink on its 650 and 650ER models. The move comes as Starlink is rapidly gaining popularity in business aviation - the firm is aiming for gigabit speeds in 2025 as it enhances its constellation of 4,500+ satellites.
Cessna adds Garmin’s Autoland System to Aircraft
Cessna has announced the rollout of Garmin’s Autoland system to its new CJ4, CJ3, and M2 models. Originally featured on smaller, recreational aircraft like TBMs and Cirrus, this represents a shift to adding the safety technology to larger aircraft that can be owner-operated or single-pilot operated. The Autoland system will automatically land aircraft at the nearest airfield if pilots become incapacitated by depressurization events, or other emergency situations.
Virtual Reality Now Coming to Flight Training
Flight simulator operator CAE has announced the development of an Apple Vision Pro app to enhance flight training. “[This] app developed by CAE will allow pilots to familiarize themselves with the flight deck, practice critical procedures, and develop muscle memory for key functions from anywhere. It will allow pilots to engage with realistic flight deck environments to further ensure they are ready for their full-flight simulator sessions and become even better prepared for any situation."
